Is There Racial Prejudice In The PRess of Trinidad and Tobago?
Is There Racial Prejudice in the Press of Trinidad and Tobago? is an excellent primer that provides an understanding of key issues related to racial prejudice in Trinidad and Tobago. In tracing the etilogy of racism in the press, Mr Boxill presents a comprehensive review of the literature in which he explored the work of Allport (1954) to that of Ragoonath (1999). From a review of the literature he generated a number of research questions from which five (5) hypotheses were derived. These hypotheses were tested within the context of the printed press in Trinidad and Tobago.
Responses from his sample were examined to determined to determine whether articles written in the newspapers were indeed racially biased. Using chi square analysis, he sought to empirically validate these responses. The results of his research seem to suggest that racial prejudice does indeed exist in the newspapers of Trinidad and Tobago. It is hoped that the findings of this study will serve as a catalyst for future research in this area.
