The Law of Dangerous Drugs in the Commonwealth Caribbean: Cases and Materials

This book is intended to assist members of the legal profession, law students and others who are interested in easily accessing cases on the Law of Dangerous Drugs in the Commonwealth Caribbean.

Cases from several Caribbean jurisdictions have been included, such as The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, The British Virgin Islands, The Cayman Islands, territories of the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The cases in the book have also been categorised so as to highlight the various principles in relation to several relevant issues, including common challenges made during trials and drugs in certain conveyances.

Mention must also be made of the amendment to the Dangerous Drugs Act in Jamaica in March 2015, which inter alia, decriminalized the possession of less than 2 ounces of ganja, and made it legal for each household to grow up to five stalks of ganja. However, the penalties for possession, dealing and trafficking in drugs have been increased considerably.
