A History of Trinidad and Tobago History is defined as a record of the past, therefore everything that happens is history. But when one wants to record the past, it is useless to record everything. One has to choose what is important. And what is important? It depends on the writer and what he wants to show. Simply put: it depends on the writer and what interests him. Overall, as in the case of a once-colonial but now independent Trinidad and Tobago, one would definitely be interested in the colonial journey to independence and in general one would be interested in its administrators and other leaders, particularly those men and women who fought for its freedom from colonialism. There would be the question of its resources, its economy and how it earned its keep.
